Reginald Leopold |
CENTENARY 1907-2007
Reginald
Leopold was born in North London on 20th May 1907 into a family of seven
children, all musicians. Reg was number eight and he made his first appearance
on Empire Day at a school concert. He
gained a scholarship to Trinity College at the age of 14 entering the
junior school. As
a start in the world of work he played
violin to silent movies. A shy retiring man, he was a worker and musician of extraordinary skill and dexterity. He put his success down to the two gifts of 'Perfect Pitch' and 'Timing'. There is no doubt that he was a master of his craft and when others sought fame and fortune, he sought musical perfection. When asked how he played the violin so well, he retorted that it was his 1600 AD Maggini violin which produced the notes , not him. Whatever he turned his skills to, he did well. From The Beatles, The Seekers, Cilla Black, Palm Court Orchestras, Broadcasting and Solo violin to Conducting and Arranging, he always applied the same level of professionalism. The results were just perfect. This site is dedicated to Reginald Leopold as a thank you for his gift of enjoyable music for all and to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of his birth which takes place in May 2007.
